Penelope Rowlands was raised in London and New York and has lived intermittently in Paris. A journalist and critic, she has contributed to Vogue, the Wall Street Journal, The Daily Beast, Architectural Digest, Art + Auction, and The New York Times, among other publications.

Her last book, A Dash of Daring: Carmel Snow and her Life in Fashion, Art, and Letters, a biography of the legendary editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar, was released by Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, in hardcover in 2005, in paperback in 2008, and in an e-book version in 2010. Rowlands is also the author of three illustrated books, all published by Chronicle Books.
